Sue Beach’s love of pottery began when she started collecting the work of other potters wherever she traveled. In 1998, she had the opportunity to take a pottery class at Gordy’s Art Mart, and her love for clay blossomed into a passion.
Beautiful objects should be used and enjoyed every day. It is satisfying to me to know that my work brings the joy and beauty of handmade pottery into the lives of others.
When the class at Gordy’s ended, Sue was privileged to spend several years as a student of Marvin Reichle in a small master class that he was teaching. She currently studies with Albany, Indiana potter, John Peterson.
Sue creates her BeachWare pottery in her studio in rural Delaware County, Indiana. Her wheel-thrown pieces are made on a kick-wheel designed and built by her husband, Ron. She also makes hand-built and extruded pieces. She develops and mixes her own glazes and loves to experiment with new forms, colors, and techniques.
A founding member of the former ArtWorks Co-Op, she is a member of the Potter’s Council and active in the on-line ceramics discussion group, Clay-Art. Her work has been displayed at the Minnetrista Cultural Center, F.B. Fogg, and Mitchell Place Gallery.
Phil Benson began the venture into the motorcycle business in 1981. Known at that time as Harley-Davidson® of Muncie, the dealership was in a building just under 6000 square feet. There were 3 employees at this time; a parts person, sales person, and service technician. The business struggled from day to day until Harley® got financing and went back to a private ownership. In 1986 we bought land and built a 18,000 square ft. building on the west end of Muncie and have been expanding ever since. We are now up to almost 23,000 square feet and need more! We now have 26 full-time and part-time employees, all trained and dedicated to the motorcycle business. Our local H.O.G.® Chapter is next to none with over 300 members. Each year we raise and donate money to various activities and functions. We have dedicated people in our chapter who grab the reins and make things happen. Our Ladies Of Harley® are as strong as anywhere in Indiana with over 40 female riders with their own motorcycles. Being in the motorcycle business for 30 years has been a great and rewarding experience for each and every one of us at Benson’s. There’s no greater feeling than coming to work and doing what you’ve enjoyed for years and will enjoy for years to come.
