It’s More Than Dollars and Cents

AMA’s National Model Aviation Museum houses some of the greatest models in the world, and is the home of more than 100 years of model aviation history. Each year, the museum’s staff puts together different displays and exhibits to attract the public and encourage people to learn about model aviation and its applications to space aviation and technology.

In 2015, AMA worked with Ball State University’s Center for Business and Economic Research to complete an economic impact study. The analysis looked at the AMA and the International Aeromodeling Center (IAC), which is the location for approximately 40 annual events, as well as the National Model Aviation Museum. It was estimated that the IAC welcomes 12,000 people from outside the county throughout the year. Based on the study, this equates to nearly $184,360 being generated from visitor purchases at local eating establishments, and $383,608 from visitors staying overnight in local hotels. The AMA would love for these numbers to continue to grow as the museum expands and develops, and the events held on-site multiply. “It’s more than dollars and cents,” said AMA Communications Coordinator Mandee Mikulski. “We are welcoming people to our site to learn about something they might not have known about before, and to take their curiosity to new heights.”

The AMA is proud to be part of the Muncie Visitors Bureau’s celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week and Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration.
